Operation Alkansiya

Posted by adjogonzalez on January 11th, 2008

Hello fellow Alumni,

During Sinigang Night last January 5, 2008 we launched Operation Alkansiya.   This is a three year program approved by the general membership last November 10, 2007.

Operation Alkansiya will be our program designed to support our Alma Mater’s call to participate in the One La Salle Scholarship Fund Drive.   Let me give you a history on how this idea was developed.

Last May 2007, during the Toronto World Congress, Br. Armin and Br. Oca introduced to us the One La Salle Scholarship Fund Drive.   The brochure given to us had a very interesting concept on the cover.  It goes like this… “If everyone in the world jumped at the exact same moment would the earth quake?  Frankly we do not know.  But we determined that if 100,000 individuals worked together to broaden access to quality education then 18,000 futures are bound to be brighter.   And maybe that’s how you shake things up.   Maybe that’s how you begin to change the world.”

Br. Gus, during his visit last October 2007, further explained to us the goals of One La Salle.  He said the goal is to create a revolving fund that will make 20% of the entire student body of each La Salle School, be under full scholarship by the year 2011.  18,000 deserving individuals will benefit and have access to the best education in the country.   Then think of the lives they will change when they graduate and apply their education.   Br. Gus also showed us this video <click here>.

I was inspired.  I hope you would be too.  I know we get a lot of solicitations for different fundraising events.  Most of them are created to ‘provide’ what is needed for the poor.  We hope this initiative will take it further by giving the poor a tool so they can provide.

I hope you take this wonderful opportunity into your heart.  Realize that a gift of education can never be taken away from a person.  And be willing to set a side a very small sacrifice consistently for the next 3 years to make a difference in someone’s life forever.

Let’s support our Alma Mater and let’s support our country!!! Let’s start SHAKIN’ THINGS UP!

Please review the attached document to get details on how Operation Alkansiya will be implemented and how to participate.
