Thank you from your new LSPAA President

Posted by admin on July 29th, 2008

Hello Lasalista Family!

Thank you! It is such a rare honor of being elected as the first female president of the LSPAA. I am truly honored by your trust and confidence in me to lead this alumni. I will give my best but I can’t do the job alone without everyone’s help.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to the outgoing officers for an excellent job. I’ve had the honor and privelege of working with 2 very dedicated people, Adjo Gonzalez and Joey Velilla. It is through their calm and steady mentorship that inspired me to serve. Two years ago, we were given the challenge of renewing the vigor and participation of every alumni; of keeping the Lasalista spirit aflame in each of us. I would like to carry on that challenge - to provide new strength for tired feet.
As the new board embarks on a new 2-year term, we would like to continue to increase membership, promote more active participation and strenghten the alumni for the next set of board members. We would like to develop a renewed sense of fellowship, particpation and camaraderie. There will be many programs. My goal is to have at least one each month that would foster camaraderie and also promote a sense of community awareness. We shall target activities and programs that is a balance of fun, social responsibility and instill a sense of pride of being part of LSPAA. Yesterday, Adjo and I received an email from another member asking how 2 more Lasalistas could be part of our group. This is a good sign…

Our programs would focus support on 3 circles. The inner circle would be the members and their families, the next circle would be community awareness and address involvement with other chapter heads and community organizations and the bigger circle would be the programs of our Alma Mater such as the scholarship program.

I also would like to cite 2 programs from Adjo’s term that I would like to continue.

1. LSPAA website www.lspaadc.org: I would like us to utilize this to the fullest, by making it the central source of information. I’d like to direct more traffic to our website. We can enhance it so that more particpation and contributions are directed to the site. It can be a central location for sourcing, increasing our network, connecting with batchmates, a help/tips page, forming hobby groups etc. The possibilties are endless.

2. Operation Alkansiya: This is a 3-year ongoing scholarship program that was launched in January this year. Although this was viewed with skepticism in the begining, this project has been successful and will continue to be part of our goal of community awareness. I continue to thank those who have viewed this with open eyes, open mind and a charitable heart. We currently have 24 participants and 6 more who have pledged to support. This shows what a HUGE positive impact can be made when a group of people get together and do a little bit of each.

As of now, we have the following events slated:

October 12: Bro Gus visits our chapter. Rolly Saldana, a past president of the alumni has gracioulsy offered to host this event.

November: Atlantic City concert.

December 6: LSPAA Christmas Party

May 22-24, 2009: La Salle World Congress hosted by Southern California Chapter

May/June: Overnight Campout

Ted Aspillera, our new VP will kick-off our first social mixer/happy hour.

Thank you, Kristina Estipular, our new secretary for already setting up the birthday greetings in the yahoo groups.

The new board will have their first meeting on Sunday at Ted’s house. We will inform you of the developments and strategies aimed at reaching our goals. It will be a challenging road ahead of us, but with your unwavering support, we are ready to take the next step and beyond towards the growth of our alumni association.

In closing I’d like to stress that reaching these goals will require the support of each and everyone. Doing a little bit of each consistently can make each baby step a BIG step towards a better alumni. The outcome is more in your hands not more the Boards.

In behalf of the newly elected officers, thank you!

Animo La Salle!
