http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8CZNnDFm3aNYQ
We started the afternoon with a mass to bless our day. And indeed we
were truly blessed. Elected during our Christmas party this year, a
powerhouse team of new board members took the helm of our chapter. On
the cover photo, elected are Secretary Rolly Saldana, Treasurer Aurora
Arellano, President Mike Agunod, Vice President Bing Crisologo and PRO
Manny Santiago. Now it is our turn to bless our new officers with our
participation! Animo La Salle!

The La Salle Philippines Alumni Association hosted a gala to celebrate
the 100th Anniversary of La Salle Education in the Philppines. It was
held at the Marriott Tysons Corner with a spirited dinner dance
attended by alumni, friends and family.
‘This once-in-a-lifetime celebration, dubbed Maki1Daan Dinner Dance,
epitomized the camaraderie and social responsibility of La Salle
graduates as they came together to renew their friendship, the Animo
spirit and values. Proceeds of the event will benefit scholarships in
the Philippines and the Tondo Millinium Challenge. ‘ - Maurice Owens
(Philippine American Foundation for Charities)
We thank all sponsors, raffle ticket buyers, guests and volunteers who
helped make this a very fun evening

New members, lots of food, great comaraderie, looking forward to a
great 100th year celeb… these are a few of the comments heard during
the party. We closed the year with great achievements. We thank
everyone who took time to prepare the great food. We thank Tony and
Andrea for letting us use their restaurant.

Maybe part of the reason was winning the last event of the sportsfest. The TUG-o-WAR! Almost 60 people attended the picnic to celebrate the completion of the first Ateneo La Salle DC Sportsfest. We look forward to bigger support and stronger teams next year!

Our annual picnic was held at the home of our treasurer Joey Velilla. 46 members, 3 guests and 6 kids were in attendance. The great food, gracious hosts and wonderful camaraderie helped make this another successful event.
We hosted the visit of DLSAA Lipa President Brother Manuel Pajarillo at the home of VP Ted Aspillera. LSPAA also officially launched the support of the Book Mobile Program thru a ceremonial handshake and turnover of a children’s book to Brother Mawel. This program will help Filipinos have access to a transportable library and guided reading program

Lots of good food and lots of casino fun too! To introduce variety to our events, we experimented on a casino type theme. This proved to be fun and participants have requested a repeat.

This was a very well organized and well participated event. We have never seen little kids for a long time and we have started to see them again as younger alumni started to participate in our activities. We would hope that the next set of officers will be from a younger generation to encourage more new green blood!

In a very successful (lots of new members!) coming out to the community activity, we participated in the Independence Day Parade. Our highly visible green shirts were able to attract ‘lost’ alumni during the event. We had a huge presence and our Bikers also brought their bikes with them. We were able to invite our newest members to our Picnic.

Five families with kids from 2 to 18 braved the chilly mountain air to sleep on tents in the beautiful Shenandoah mountain top. We hiked, we cooked, we ate, we played games, pitched tents, snored, breakfast, and went canoeing with lunch along the river bank. This was our first and will have another in 2009. Our very industrious Eileen Nadal, then a PRO and now the President organized this event that will prove to be a draw for 2009.

Yes, it was a blast. I hope everyone was just as excited too! I don’t remember drinking as much beer since we graduated ..
I guess the key there is ‘remember’… Being there with your classmates is really the best! You see everybody with a big wide smile on their face. Suddenly you are young again. You were there. Life was easy! We saw old faces … some are hard to recall … some did not change … an a few still look really hot! The touchy feely part was when we went to the second floor of the engineering building. My engbatch (’83) is the last batch with mounted pictures on the wall. We each took a pose pointing to our own picture on the wall. This is something you would not want to miss. Next time you have a chance to visit, make sure you look for your picture! Congratulations to the planning committee and DLSAA-Manila for organizing a very successful homecoming. Entertainers for the evening included Cynthia Patag and Randy Santiago. Both from Batch ‘83. Also our member Ron Diokno was tapped to help by the planning committee!

When Bro. Gus spoke to us in 2007 to discuss the One La Salle Scholarship fund, we were inspired by the far reaching and long term impact of the program. But we were faced with rising cost of fundraising events and the inherent lack of efficiency. Too much money was being spent on venue and services. Also after a very busy 2007, folks were not so interested in another major fund raising event. Economically, lots of members are not able to afford to participate in events that ‘costs’ hard earned money. During our 2007 ‘Tinola Night’, Operation Alkansiya was proposed and approved. It is a good way for almost 100% of money collected, make its way to One La Salle. We also created an ‘installment’ giving process that allowed members to contribute a small amount on a monthly basis and still make a big tax deductible impact at the end of the year.

One of the problems we had in our chapter was the lack of new members. We used the invite to our ‘Free’ Christmas Party to spread the word. We received new members and also invited other friends. This event changed how we measure the success of our activities. We started measuring success by the number of new alumni we would meet.

A great fun evening enjoying Adjo’s attempt to cook tinola. It was a great time to be with great company. We also had a very productive work session where the board shared the activities planned for 2008. Thank you to all those who brought food and drinks and for sharing fun time with us.

We were fortunate to have Br. Gus break bread with us at the residence of alumni member Max Jalandoni with help of his wife Nadine. He gave us an in depth profile of Bahay Pagasa and the One La Salle scholarship program. My best take away from the meeting was his reassuring words that the brothers are constantly praying for the health and well being of each and every La Salle Alumni! Animo La Salle!

It was of great honor to be invited to participate in a very important national event. The very lively and very colorful Philippine contingent was put together by Grace Valera of the Migrant Heritage Commission (www.migrantheritage.org). Me and my kids, Joey Gonzalez (the handsome escort to one of the beauty queens) and Isabela Gonzalez (proud to twirl the colorful banner as part of the vinta display). I held the banner in front. We had barongs and ternos all over. We had ati-atihan costumes, we had flag waving line dancers, and a very colorful vinta display at the end.
